Microemulsion system for topical delivery of thai mango seed kernel extract: development, physicochemical characterisation and ex vivo skin permeation studies.

A microemulsion system containing Thai mango seed kernel extract (MSKE, cultivar "Fahlun") was developed and characterised for the purpose of topical skin delivery. The MSKE-loaded microemulsions were prepared by using the spontaneous emulsification method. Isopropyl myristate (IPM) was selected as the oil phase. A polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate and sorbitan monododecanoate (1:1, w/w) syst...

Efficacious topical treatment for murine cutaneous leishmaniasis with ethanolic formulations of amphotericin B.

The goal of the present study was to evaluate the antileishmanial effects of topically applied lipid-based formulations containing amphotericin B (AmB) in CBA mice as a model for human cutaneous leishmaniasis. Such treatment, if efficacious, is expected to be superior to systemic treatments since, by acting in a localized manner, it will require lower, and therefore less toxic, drug dosages. Th...

Old world Leishmania infantum cutaneous leishmaniasis unresponsive to liposomal amphotericin B treated with topical imiquimod.

We present a case of a child with Leishmania infantum cutaneous leishmaniasis unresponsive to 2 courses of intravenous liposomal amphotericin B, a treatment failure that has not been reported in this Leishmania species. The patient responded to topical imiquimod and had no relapse. We review the literature on the treatment failure of liposomal amphotericin B for cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Topical treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Parenteral pentavalent antimonials remain the standard therapy for cutaneous leishmaniasis. More effective and patient-compliant topical treatments are an important alternative treatment for the localized self-limiting forms of this disease. Two paromomycin ointments are commercially available but their use is limited by either toxicity or lack of efficacy. Other topical formulations have been ...

In-vitro, Ex-vivo Skin Permeation and Biological Evaluation of 18-β- Glycyrrhitic Acid Transdermal Patches

Objective: Transdermal patch is a promising approach that allows continuous input of drugs with short biological half-lives. 18 β-Glycyrrhitic acid (GA) is chemically pentacyclic triterpenoid which possess powerful antiinflammatory action. The present study was designed to formulate GA reservoir-type transdermal patches using piperine as bioenhancer. Method: Transdermal Patch of GA was prepared...
